electrical problem

well i just changed the control arms yesterday, but now more trouble. i went to the vw dealership to look for a nice used passat (been looking for one for a while). well, the didnt have any. so i go to my car and it doesnt want to start. the salesman wanted to sell me a new car rather than give me a jump, but he hooked me up anyway. the first thing i thought was i need a new battery. but on the expressway home, my valentine one kept resetting as if the power was getting cut off. my bose would stop for a second too, not everytime the V1 went off, but most of the time.

does this problem sound wierd to anyone but me. i know i need a new battery but what could be causing the quick cut of power to my radar detector and stereo. thanks.

My guess is a bad alternator..happened to me last month. It sounds exactly what happened to me on a long trip when mine went bad...my stereo and radar would start flickering, only a little bit at first, also, my battery and ABS lights were flashing on the dash. After about an hour of this, progressively getting worse, the car totally died. It was about a $400 repair for me, including a brand new alternator (not remanufacted) and a lot of labor.

damn, that sucks. ive changed an alternator on my old 92 SE and it was kind of a pain in the ars. ill try that and let you guys know how it went.

1993MaxSE, i also have a pearl white maxima. i have the rims on that are on my sig with eibachs and tokicos. not as clean as your though. very nice. that is a fine example of how a pearl white max should look.

Wow, that sucks.

But if you're looking at an used Passat to escape from electrical trouble, well, you're not likely to get it. Passats (and VWs in general) have even more electrical gremlins. The kinds that people just can't find out why. Like instrument panel lights that go dead all of a sudden or battery that keep draining, things like that. They do drive nicely though.

ive been wanting a passat ever since my old jetta got stolen. they are very nice and they have a lot of potential. i think the max and the pASSat are the 2 best sedans out there. its just a hard decision between the two. both will eventually give me problems, but i think that the max might be a little more reliable.
