Thermostat Install

Im thinking of replacing the thermostat in my 89 Max and need instructions on how to do it. I have done a search but haven't found anything that really helps. So if anyone has any info let me know, thanks.

I don't think someone has done a complete write up on replacing the thermostat yet. I replaced mine just by following the exact directions in my repair manual. So, if you already don't have one, go to an auto parts store and pick up a Hayne's or Chilton's (preferably Haynes) Repair Manual for your car. It has really good directions.

He has a VG, I hear its pretty tuff to get to the thermostate. You might as well do the water pump at the same time.

I watched my ex-gfs father do it in about 15 minutes with a wrench... He did the alternator in the same run, too... Took him a total of 30 minutes to do both.
I have to replace mine again, it's stuck open... Has been for over a year now (I hate people that use water in their radiator...)

I did this almost 2-years ago on my car. It's not the easiest thing to do, but it's not that difficult. I posted back then, but I guess it's not around any more.

I remember scraping the old sealant off the old thermostat housing. Scotch-brite pad works great for this.

Compared to other cars, the VG motor does take more work. On my wife's Camry, I did it in about 10 minutes (No sealant - it uses a gasket and it's very easy to reach).
