did i get ripped off?
so my car had been having that loud vibrating noise and stuff so i took it to my mechanic of 7 years to have him fix it out. i ended up getting both my axles replaced, new bushings, new hubcap bearings, and a camshaft seal for $875. did i get ripped off cause that seems like alot.

axles are over 100 apiece most likely. Not sure about the bearings and camshaft seal, but mostly, you paid for labor. Sounds about right, maybe got overcharged 100-200 if that much.

Go back and talk to him, tell him you don't feel the price is fair.
You should have done your own axles, just pay to do the wheel bearings, and as a matter of fact, you better make sure he did the wheel bearings. If he did do the wheel bearings, WHY? How does he know if they were bad? I mean taking off the axles doesn't give you access to the hub alone.
Honestly, I mean no offence to you, but it sounds like you handed your car over and let him fix what he wanted.

look how much is being done at those prices. nissan parts are a bit more expensive, parts are a bit harder to replace, but damn..we get charged up the **** and out the pocket.
Axles: $80 each (mechanic price: $60) x 2 = $160
labor to replace axles.. 120 each x 2 = 240.
wheel bearings are $35 each from nissan.. mechanic's markup- $50 each x 2 = 100.
spring clip retainers = $4 each x 2 = 8.
Dust seals = $15 each x 4 = 60.
Labor on wheel bearings: $50 each x 2 = 100.
Crank seal doesn't cost much, $10 or so, but the labor to get TO the crank seal is a b!tch, as you have to tear the front half of the engine apart.
Mayube he said an axle seal?? anyway, $50 minimum to repalce that.
160+240+100+8+60+100 = $668. That doesn't include the seal replacement.
$850 wouldn't be bad, IF he had to replace a seal somewhere else on the car, like the crank seal.
