Door locks-driver vs. passenger side

I am wondering what the intended operation of the power door locks is (yes I searched...)

On my car, if I unlock my car from the driver side, all 4 door. open. Then if I push down the lock on the driver side, all 4 doors lock. Now if I do the same thing on the passenger side, only the front passenger side will lock, meaning I have to reach over to the driver side to lock the doors before closing the passenger door.

Is this standard operation on a 89 SE? If so, has anyone found an easy way so that either:
A. when unlocking the passenger door, only that door opens, or
B. when locking the passenger door, all doors lock.

Thanks,

Andrew

nope, that's the way it's supposed to be. I was playing with that today while working on the stereo... right before I locked my keys in the car. luckily I had an extra key made last week.
