92 Max w/trans problems $1599 to fix???

My car recently started to slip gears. Would rev up high but wouldn't get over 35 miles per hour. I think it was missing second and forth gears. Anyways, paid $150 to flush transmission, week later problem came back. Now independent shop wants to repair the following. By the way, this car has only 45,000 original miles.
Does quote sound fair to you? Anybody had these kinds of problems with such low miles?

Replace: bellhousing; band; reverse steels (car went into reverse fine); front planetary; solenoids; rebuild kit (major); shift kit; convertor. All for $1599.00

This car never had any problems and has been well maintained.

Do you think I am getting ripped off?

I do know that transmission places will try to rob you more often than not I'd get a second opinion from the dealer

auto or manual?

best way to find out is shop around and try and get two people to diagnose one inique problem. Then call up www.phoenixhardparts.com and ask them if they can rebuild yours completely for a little less than the above two quoted you.
I spent a whole lot more when i rebuilt mine....only cos I was ignorant and gave them a blank check.

im sure that price includes labor charges... if so.. thats a normal price for a good tranny rebuild

its about 500 bucks for AAMCO to take out a tranny and install another one
