Installing rear 6x9 speakers HELP!
Installing rear 6x9 speakers HELP!
Whats up guys? I have a 1993 maxima and I am trying to install new speakers but I can't get the rear deck off. I'd appericate some instructions. Thanks for your time
If its a GXE you need to take the break light out first. Other than that, it just pries up. Its hard, just be carefull. On one car, I pushed the little nubs that hold the deck down from inside the trunk.

I was able to mount my pioneer 6x9s from underneath. If you look up from the trunk, you'll see 4 nuts that you can remove and drop the speaker down.
for pics, check out my homepage in the how-to section

I own a 89 nissan max SE I think, but am not sure try looking to see if your OEM 6X9's are mounted to a black brace if so there are 4 nuts that u will need to unscreew to get the old speakers to drop. That was what I did. Max's i believe call for what is called a bottom mount not top mount. Check and let me know? Good luck shouldn't take too long!!!!

oh brooklyn 99, you might want to bookmark craig's page. It has the answers to quite a few questions that you will sooner or later ask.
Snowmax, they are 6x9s, and they do mount from under. kinda tricky to do though.

i have an 89' gxe and it had the bose stuff in it too. what i ended up doing was removing the rear dash in order to unscrew some bolts. next i took the whole bose mounts out from the trunk. i cut off the amps and lined up my infinity 6x9's up to the holes. then i stuck them where i wanted them in my trunk, then drilled all the way from my speaks up into the car itself. after that my little sister helped me actually hold the bolts that go from the speakers up into the cab. its a really clean and fast way to mount your speakers.
my gxe had 6 1/2" rear speakers. and to remove the rear shelf i had to take out the back seat and obviously remove the 3rd brakelight.
it's not hard. it's more like a pain in the a$$. but that's what i had to do to remove the ear speakers.
i couldn't help you with ideas regarding installing 6 x 9's because i haven't done it yet. but i wouldn't mind hearing how things turned out afterwards.
good luck

Take out the seat
If you want to avoid the risk of breaking something, the correcet way to remove the rear deck is to remove the back seat. There are 3 points under the front of the base of the back seat that you have to pry up and pop loose, then you can pull up and out the bottom of the rear seat. At this point there are 2 bolts holding the back of the rear seat on. They are located in the bottom corners near the door openings. Take these bolts out, then there are about 4 more points along the top that you have to pry out like the bottom half. Then you can remove the 3rd brakelight and pop the rear deck loose. Time consuming but not complicated.
Okay here's the deal with the '93 Max on rear speakers.
There is definately a difference between the GXE and SE here. The SE has the 6x9's mounted under the rear deck. This is easily accessible from the trunk. Do NOT remove the rear seat to do this. There are 4 bolts that hold the speakers in place. Remove them, remove the old speakers and replace them with the other units (By the way those Bose speakers are real cheesy in the back. Bose should be ashamed of themselves).
After that, place your speaker wires back on and your done (unless you have a replacement head unit. The best thing to do if you're replaced the radion is to run your own speaker wires to the rear).
On the GXE the speakers are 6.5 inch units. and they remove from the top of the deck. My uncle has one of these models and he had to unscrew them from the trunk and lift them out from the inside.
Good luck..

i have an 89 gxe with the bose and it had 6x9 unbolt from the bottom unless ure replacing the entire unit. if youre not using the bose amps you can splice up the wires(the thinner ones) and you now have sound. if you remove the entire bose assy the hole there is for a 6 ish inch speaker. easiest thing is to look in your trunk and see what you have. if you already have 6x9 then just swap them out, if you have 6.5, then time to start tearing it appart and fabricating, have fun!
