power steering grinding?

hi...my power steering just started giving out a grinding sound while turning today...

i can hear it grind clearly when idling and turning the steering either way...what could it be? the sound appears to be coming from somewhere right behind the dash in the center...
the org search gave me nothing...

any ideas?? oh yeah...i had just posted a few days ago about the whining sound from the power steering as well...could these two be related? please help.

Mine just did the same thing. It was the rack.I'm no mechanic so I can't explain it but my mechanic charged my $490 and I had to have the front end aligned, that was another $49.I think it's a pretty common problem.Don't let it go too long and be sure you keep a check on your power steering fluid level or you'll burn up your pump also.I'm sorry for the bad news but I hope this helps.Oh I bet your fluid level is low now, so check it.
