The only "legitimate" aftermarket grill for 3rd gen's that I know of is from Stillen. Otherwise, GrilleTech makes a grill insert. And any number of .org members have modified their grills. Off the top of my head, Kaleb, Brandon, Matt (I think) have done it. A search under "grills" might yield better results.

I know Stillen makes one for the bubble butts, (err, uh, 4th gens ), but I didn't think they made one for the 3rd gens. If they do, it's new to me...

you can do it yourself by cutting all of the supports and cross bar things out. then sanding it down, paint it and insert whatever you want. you can order mesh inserts online, some steel manufactuers have mesh steel available, or you could go to home depot and get an 87 cent gutter guard and put that in there. i actually did one like that and it turned out really good.

About $50 and a weeks work (couple hours each day, no joke). 89-91 grilles dont take to customization too good. 92-94 is really needed.

People say you can do a mesh grille 'cheap' and 'easy' and blah blah, but you really cant. I use primer, sealer, color coat, clear coat, mesh, JB weld, red putty, filler, other miscelaneous stuff and a week of cut up hands.

I dont just cut out the bars and slap mesh on it. There's actually quite a bit of shaping/forming to be done. Then I actually add in plastic to the grille frame. Those of you with mesh grilles will know about those 4 spaces cut-out in the top of the grille frame. It's not pretty.

I fill all that in using plastic from the cut-out bars. Cut it to fit, plastic weld it, fill the imperfections, sand, fill, sand, fill etc etc.

I use no 'insert'. Mine is pretty much one piece. You probably couldnt even tell it's non-factory if you were looking at it up close in person. Pictures dont do it justice.

Then it's sand and paint over and over till it's flawless. Not near as easy and quick as people say to get it done good. I think this is quite evident by the abundance of crap 'mesh grilles' you see.

I agree with the taking your time thing James, that is the most important thing that i left out. The time that you put into it will pay off when you are finished.---- don't rush through it at all. by the way James, yours does look really good.

It's not really that hard, it doesn't take a genius by any means... you just have to take your time that's all. Anybody with any sort of artistic inclination could do it no problem. But yeah, cut up hands are a given.

Stillen made a grille at one time for 3rd Gen's. I'm 90% positive I saw it as part of the ground effects kit a while back. I'll see if I can find a pic or link.

Or if anyone knows what I'm talking about, you can post it.

Just to follow up on what I said about Stillen making a 3rd Gen grille, go look on their website, under the ground effects. If it's at all possible to blow up the pic, you can see the grille that they used to offer but now don't.

How do you get the friggin grill off without breaking the tabs? I have had the stuff to do my grill for a few months now, but I haven't messed with it.

If it's a 94 grill, you should stick a screw driver in to the front of it through the fins. There is a plastic screw. Turn it 45 degrees in any direction. That should release the tabs on the other side. You have to turn them so that the tabs are square with the slot they stick through. That probably doesn't make sense, but if you go out and look at it, it will. I tried just squeezing the tabs from the other side so that they would go through, and ended up breaking the grill . Don't do that .

Thanks. I will try it this weekend. Finally get a friggin whole weekend off. I work 60 hours weekly. Five 11 hour days during the week, and usually 5 hours on Saturday. Since they finally hired someone to help me out, I will now cut back to 40-45 hours or so. I can definitely use the break.

That pic show exactly why I like his grill. It sets the front of his car off. It is different that factory and at the same time, it is different than most of the other DIY grills. I have seen quite a few on here that look good, but I tend to like the ones that are chrome better than the ones that are body-colored. Just my opinion.
