1. Tranny rebuilds... how much does a rebuilt tranny cost for a Maxima? All I know is that it cost me 1200 dollars to rebuild the tranny on my old Merkur Scorpio.

2. When I start the car up now, the starter struggles for a bit to start the car. What part of the ignition system is dying here? Is it the starter itself?

Ok, 2 answers.....

1) Look to pay just about that much, if not more, for a tranny rebuild. They ARE pricy, and not a lot of mechanics want to touch 'em.

2) Sounds like maybe the brushes or the solenoid itself. I'm not THAT knowledgeable about Nissan starters (except when I had to constantly get under my 300ZX TT and plug in the solenoid which seemed to find a way to disconnect)

Ok trans should run around 1500-2000 at an independent
shop more at a dealer. Your battery may be telling you
it's about to die. It cant put out enogh voltage to spin
the starter at full speed. But I would cheek both.

 

Thanks for input. I hope my transmission doesn't kick anytime soon, it'll be a cold cold winter waiting for the bus (And waiting for a good time to rob a bank).

My starter is working fine now for some reason, I'm still nervous though, I'm gonna have it checked out. Thanks.

 

i would look at your batterie.... though i may not know how to spell.. i know that sound system will do some damage to your bat.. 2 or 3 year for a cheap with no kills.. 4 for a nice one with no kills.

mine didnt like turnin over.. specially when it got cold here.. batt was a 95... only a kill or 2.. and no system... popped in a 50 dolla one from pep boys.. and it starts up beautifully
