weird noise during steering, could it be the cv boots or rack and pinions?

So whenever i turn the steering wheel, this grinding sound appears.
I know that both of my cv boots are ripped and i will be needing to replace both of my half shaft could that be the problem? Or could the problem be from the rack and pinion?
the steering is just fine

You know what I get this same problem when i turn my wheel hard like whan I'm parking. I never got around to doing anything about it (I'm lazy) but if you wanna fix it, the search might pop up some answers to this.

it's not the rack and pinion it's the torn boot that let dirt/debris in now it's worn and making noise. You should just replace the whole axle, alot easier.

it will cost me around 500 to replace both of my half shaft
how much would it cost to replace the whole axle?

$500??

If you replace the axles yourself it should cost around $120, which is the price of the axles alone. if you pay to have the axles replaced, then labor should be around $100-150.

Same problem

I have the same problem on my max too....infact it just started...

but it only happens when i start turning to the right...it never occurs when i turn left....

i dont think it has anything to do with the axles...atleast not on mine....my CV boots and joints are in very good shape..

the grinding in my car appears to come from exactly in the center somewhere BEHIND the dash?!?! this started after i started hearing the infamous whining from my steering

the fluid levels are all good so i cant figure out whats up...
anybody know whats really going on??

I replaced my right side at about 80k miles the boot had ripped and I never fixed it. Dirt gets in there and it shows up a a clicking when you make a right or left turn. The shop that fixed mine had problems and used the wrong axel and I had ot take it somewhere else. Appearently there are a lot of differnet models depending on if you have abs or not. Best bet would be to find someone to rebuild your existing ones.

see the problem i have been having isn't a clicking noise that you hear with a bad boot
but it's rather a grinding noise

it could also be the bearings. you may hear it more in turns because the outside tire turns faster and therefore more noise.

roll down your windows and listen to see if you also hear it while driving straight. also take off the whell and turn it by hand you should be able to hear the grinding from the bearing
