simple question about gas gauge long explantation can you help

Im trying to think this through im going to wait a day or two before I do anything. I installed a new gauge cluster the reading was accurate. This time had a friend help me install white faces. I thought everything was fine since we didnt pull the needles off but...... Heres the thing we turned the tach and speedometer so we could slip on gauges and it automatically moved back to 0 and there both fine and so did the temp gauge but the gas gauge when you touch it goes wherever you move it to. As far as i can remember in my car or any other car the gas needle should sit at E until you turn it on. Your suggestion is that I fill up gas tank and put it at the F and it should be fine. The only reason I question that is because I put it at approximately half tank which is where it should be but it has yet to move so I am going to run a lot more miles and see if it moves for sure then I will try your suggestion. Do you think If i put it at E when the key isnt in it will automatically adjust or wil that make it worse?

Do NOT worry about it at all. I have my old guages right here next to me. In our year maxima, the gas guage does not go to zero. There is always some electrical current to hold it in place, or move it up and down, but it does NOT go to E when you shut off the car. Nor will moving it screw with it. You could put it up to Full, and then plug in the guage, it will go to where it should be.

Anyone want to back me up on this?

ps-When I swapped my guages paid no attention to the gas guage, I just put in the new one and put the cluster back together.

the gas gauge stays at it's position even with the car off and is designed to do that

I am almost positive it will automatically adjust itself. Think about when you fill up the gas - when you put the key back to the ON position, the gas gauge then adjusts itself according to the tank so I dont see why if you moved the gauge, it wouldnt come back to the right spot when you turned the car ON.

yall are right i was seriously buggin bout this so i went to fill gas ten minutes ago and it went to F I think why I thought it sat at E when not on is because I rememer the day before on the pod I installed it was sitting at E and slowly creeped to right spot but I never paid attention after that time... I had been driving a 85 volvo that didnt have a working gas gauge as long as I have owned so I never paid close attention to it I always used the trip meter. So everything is fine thanks for posting anyway....OT question what is bulb size for dome light and what plaec online has best price on Polarg bulbs especially the 194 I need almost 10 of those for all im doing
