you should use 5W30, if you can afford synthetic then go ahead. Use a good quality filter.

5W30 is a little thin for a "performance" engine, especially if you drive it hard or it gets REALLY cold...
I would say at least 10W30, or if you're in a tropical climate, mebbe even straight 30W or 40W

Hmmm, 5W30 is what the dealer put in my car here in Minnesota, where temperature gets a bit cold in winter...

Also there is a technical service bulliten, which says 5w30 should be used.

Thank for answers. Where I live a climate is very changeable, in the winter coldly and it is hot in the summer. In the winter up to 20 degrees of a frost (on Öåëüñèþ, in Farenheits I unfortunately do not know), and in the summer up to 35 degrees of heat. As run at the engine is already high 190 thousand kilometers there was a question about type of oil. Usually synthetic apply on new engines with small run, and bigger, a floor synthetic or mineral a little. I addressed to local dealer Nissan but they unfortunately could not answer me what oil of the manufacturer (Mobil, Castrol, 76) approaches for my engine better. Therefore I have addressed to you as you have operating experience of this automobile(car). You can write to me what run in miles at you and what oil of the manufacturer you use. This information for me will be enough. Beforehand thank.

Mobil, Castrol, Penzoil, and Valvoline all make pretty good "regular" base oils. Just change every 3000 miles (5000 km?).

If you can get the stuff there, I highly recomment Castrol GTX. it's a "regular" oil- not synthetic. change every 3500 miles or so if you drive hard. 5000 miles if you don't drive aggressively.

for summer, use 10w30 and winter, use 5w30.

If you see oil seeping/leaking from the seals, switch to the next thicker weight of oil.

If you have the time and can understand what they mean, bill99GXE has complied a huge spreadsheet of vasiour cars using various oils and how they perform. do a search on the forums for "oil analysis spreadsheet" and you'll find it.
very informational.

I had that question also, I currently use a full-synthetic 10w/30. But when I start the car on cold mornings, I get a ticking sound from the engine for a second, but then disappears??? Really stumped??? Should I change to a 5 wieght? I had the oil pump filter in the oil pan cleaned it did have some sludge. But it sounds like the viscosity level is becoming solid so it doesn't have the flowabilty up to the moving components? Let me know??

it's common on older cars. the hydraulic lifters leak down a small amount, causing the noise on startup. once the engine builds oil pressure, the lifters pump themselves back up and the ticking stops.

If it lasts more than a few seconds, then I'd be worried.

What should I do to stop? Should I just turn the ignition switch to the position right before the starting portion to attempt to prime the oil to maybe loosen the oil? Or am I on the wrong path? What about a lighter wieght? like 5w/30 full-synthetic?

there's nothing you can do, other than tear the engine apart and replace the lifter. the oil pump is mechanical- it only pumps when the engine is turning.
the fuel pump is electrical so you build pressure with the key turned on, but not oil.
It's not really anything to worry about though- just as long as it doesn't last more than a few seconds.

I use castrol 10W30. I have been using it for 20years in Nissans and I never have had a problem. In my opinion 5W30 is a little thin. Change your oil every 3,000 miles
