Is this car worth buying ....

1994 Maxima GXE
Very dependable car. Beautiful dark red, p/w, p/l, tinted windows
Exterior Color: Red
Interior Color: Black
Doors: Four Door
Body Style: Sedan
Transmission: Automatic
Engine: 6 Cylinder
Fuel Type: Gasoline
Stock Number: 2793R
VIN: JN1HJ01F1RT202136

Mileage: 164,000
Price: $2,995

Also if I go take a look at it is there anything I should look or hear for?
Also I have read about VTC being expensive how would I know if it was bad on this car? Thanks

Since it is a GXE it has the VG motor and you do not have to worry about the VTC issue, since it is only a problem with the VE motor (92-94 SE). Don't worry so much about the mileage number, if you think it looks too high. The important thing is to check and see if the car has been well maintained. A well kept VG will just keep going and going and give you many more years of happy driving.

You won't have to worry about VTC's but you will have to worry about the transmission. 3rd gen auto trannies are fragile and expensive to rebuild. Probably as much as VTC replacement.

I wouldn't buy it.

rumor has it the 92+ autos are built with Raybestos green bands and clutches...I'm guessing that is better quality than previous, plus from what I've seen on here most of the autos that die are earlier high milage models. but then again with 164k+ on the clock, its hard to say. I wouldn't buy it either...

If teh body and interior are near perfect and you think you could live with a tranny rebuild, I say go for it.

tyr to get a ve type 3rd gen.. with low miles.. and 5-spd.. its very hard to find it with low miles.... but when you do dont pay more than 4k. for a great condition max. a vg type max in mint should not pay no more than 2k 2500
