general 3rd GEN questions

i was just wondering what your guys' experience is with the reliability of the 92-94 SEs??? i am from a background of honda and nissan, so Im used to good reliability and really cant afford to not have it. What are some of the common problems with these cars? what about the engine? transmission? about how much can the engine/tranny hold in stock form?

THNX for any responses or links you can give me for useful information, ive read some of the faqs but their really general

I DO know of the ticking noise, VTC problem tho, so you dont need to mention that

One thing that I know of is the injector problem. But I think it affects other nissans too, as my friend's Sentra has occasional injector failure too.

There's the automatic tranny problem, but that's easily avoided. Get a 5-speed!

The hesitation/stalling problem is maddening, but they're more of an annoyance, and not likely to leave you stranded.

eh, doesnt sound like anything too bad

yah im familiar with the hesitation/surge problem, with our cars its usually the EGR system clogged up.

what about transmissions? like in my car, the 3rd gear is prone to snapping when put up against 250+ hp(140 stock)

Nissan trannys in general are not the greatest, the 5 speeds hold up better than the autos. But if you start to build up a lot of power you could still run into some problems down the road if you aren't kind to it.

The hesitation/surge stuff is annoying, definately. But that's sensor related usually. That, or something simple like spark plugs or coils. So that can be fixed.

Basically you have to just take a look at each individual car. Yes, look for the common problems, but don't assume every one of them will have those problems. For example, my VTC's are fine, and for some reason when other maxima drivers hear I drive a VE they assume when I start it up they are going to hear ticking.
