need help w/92 Bose system

i just bought a 92 max se with the Bose cassette system. all i want to do is put a cd player in with it, but people are telling me different things. some say i can get an adapter and everything will work fine. Others are telling the adapter will make it sound horrible and there's nothing i can do but rip out the whole bose system and start over if i want a cd. does anyone have any experience using an aftermarket cd deck with the adapter and bose system? does it sound bad? i'm not trying to blow anyone away, i just want a decent sound. any experience with this or advice would be appreciated.

92 Bose CD

There was a CD player option on the 92 bose maxima system. It was a separate head unit that took the place of the cup holder/change tray beneath the radio. If you're desparate for a CD player you could do this. It's annoying though that you must give up the cup holder for this.

The factory CD that goes with the 3rd Gen BOSE is shown on page 2 of my homepage, it plugs right in. Good luck finding one though. Ask for it in the For Sale forum, or try eBay.

I got this off ebay fpr $120 + shipping. It's actually for a 95+ but I got an adaptor harness so that it plugs into my 93 Bose. You must have an 8 pin connector on the back of your Bose head unit though. I believe all 92+ models have this.

I have a Kenwood HU running into the adapter to my Bose and it works beautifully. The sound is great. You could always go with a changer that works through the radio antenna too.

My rear speakers were gone when I got my 92se. I put in an aftermarket cd using just the nissan install harness from best buy. Ran the factory amp/speakers up front and the 6x9s of the deck power. Works great. I haven't heard anything else that has the bass response or imaging up front as good as the factory setup without spending a lot of money.
