Nissan Catalytic Converter $50 Billion Dollars

I was making some calls for prices on a new catalytic converter for my Moms 91 SE. I called two Nissan dealers in the area...one quoted me at $737.38, and the other at $850.00. I asked him if he'd ever sold one, and he responded with "we don't sell too many of those around here". Gee - you don't say?

I'm sending my Mom to Meineke or some other place like that. She mentioned to me the other day she wanted her car to be faster, so maybe I'll get her a carsound cat, and suggest she have the y-pipe replaced at the same time.

I think the Carsound Cat and Y-pipe is the best idea (you must have a cool mom). But if your Mom must have a Nissan Cat you can try a couple things to save $$:

1. Try Courtesy Nissan
2. Find a low mileage wrecked Max and snag the Cat
3. Mention the internet to your dealer (this may sound weird, but it worked for me yesterday at Pinnacle Nissan in PHX)

What a bunch of crooks. Those prices are out of control!

Courtesy has great prices, and they almost always beat other Nissan dealers, but in this case the Nissan cat is still $650.00 (plus shipping).

I don't think junkyard are legally allowed to sell you a used cat. That's legally, anything goes though from the places I've been to

yup and no point in snagging a cat off a junker since you'll have no idea what it's been through...

I disagree. If you find a wrecked Max with 90K miles, and they will sell you the cat for $50, then its a good deal. A cat is a maintenance free item. What could someone possibly do to it that you couldnt see by looking at the combs when you bought it?

*buzzer* the condition of the motor the car came off of can determine a cats condition and the chances of you knowing that are slim. His cat failed for a reason and the other one from a junkyard could be on its way out as well and where would that leave him?

http://www.discountconverter.com/Why...erproblems.htm

http://www.forparts.com/Converter.htm

etc etc

I am going to admit defeat on this one. After doing some research, there really are things you cant see that could be wrong with the converter. 86 my junkyard idea.

Just make your life easier and get the carsound for $100.00 at www.warpspeedperformance.com Let's say you pay $50.00 for a used one, for an extra $50.00 you get a cat that's brand new.

That's the same thing I found. That's why I have a Random Tech Cat now.

You think I'd be dumb enough to leave a Carsound cat sitting on my back porch?
They're OEMs I've pulled off my parts car and a couple other cars I've come across that I replaced w/ performance cats...

So, I convinced my mom to go ahead and get the carsound cat and y-pipe from warpspeed. I can't believe she's gonna have the y-pipe before me
