fuel filter replacement...

Hey guys. i used to be a member here years ago when i had my 97' SE. anyways, i just bought a 93' GXE as a commuter, and i'd like to do some maintanence on it. anyone have any DIY instructions for replacing the fuel filter? It rides alittle rough, hesitates especially at idle. anyone have any ideas or suggestions for fixing this or what may be causing it? i've been using 93 octane and added FI cleaner. thanks for any help guys. BTW, i really miss that 97'. one of my favorite cars

1) Pull fuel pump fuse
2) start car and let die
3) try starting again to make sure it doesn't start
4) unscrew clamps above and below the filter
5) remove hoses (have rags available because there will still be fuel inside the filter)...the hoses may be very stingy at sliding off. The first time i did it i used pliers and a lot of muscle. Just be careful not to tear the lines...
6) insert new filer...tighten clamps
7) Reinstall fuel pump fuse
8) start her up and make sure you have no leaks

oops i didn't read the whole thread...

fuel filter could be the culprit. do you know the history of tuneups on the car? if not i personally would just start replacing all of the maintenance items for peace of mind. plugs, wires, dist cap, rotor, pcv, etc etc.

unfortunately i don't. i'm thinking it may need a tuneup now, so i'm gonna do that when i get a chance. thanks for your help.

or a jug incase it goes in your eyes... kind of like when i was working on a Z once and my friend turned the key without me knowing pressurizing the fuel lines... that burned for a while.

a good way of getting hoses off without taking the chances of breaking them by pulling with pliers is to use wire cutters. stick the wire cutters under the hose and pry up on the hose. it will make it slide off and the most damage you can do is put a little scrape on the metal.

Probably one of your sensors, there is basically tons of info about hesitation in the 3rd gen forum

ok, so i did a search and one thing i'm thinking here is O2 sensor? it was mentioned that this would cause hesitation as well as black smoke and a bad smell. i don't have black smoke coming out of my exhaust, but i do notice a smell. could this be the problem?

rotten eggs? could be the cat....if it's the cat that went bad b/c of something else. 02 sensors are over $100 but couldn't hurt to replace it not knowing the history of the car
