93 Maxima engine VG/VE engine blocks

I was wondering if Nissan used the same engine block for both the SOHC and DOHC engine configurations? I had figured that Nissan made a set of DOHC heads and installed them on the block in place of the SOHC heads in the Maxima for 1993.
I figured it would make more sense to do it that way because the cams for one thing are contained in the heads and also it would be cheaper because Nissan would not have to make a new block for the DOHC configuration.

If has any info on this subject please let me know.
Thanks in advance.

that's a negative ghostrider. Blocks are completely different hence the engine code designation difference.

That is only 50% true. You only need the correct VG30 block .
