Replaced Master cyl and ABS pump still spongey

I had a small leak on the master cylinder, and a big one on the abs pump. I replaced both, and bled the brakes using a one man bleader kit. I bled brakes with all wire harness disconnected from abs pump as per Haynes. Bled till the little bottle was more than half full and there were no bubbles, and only new fluid came out. The car stops well but you the brake pedal travels further before the brakes catch, and then its still kind of spongey. I mean car will be stopped solid and you can still push pedal down. Its firm but it is possible to push it to the floor. The pressure is there, the whole time, its just not as much as I think it should be. Any suggestions on what I may have done wrong? Oh yeah I started with passenger rear, driver rear, driver front, and then passenger front.

Thanks,
Steve

some of that depends on the brake pads and fluid you used, that may be normal.. some of the regulat DOT 3 stuff gave my car a rock hard pedal, and others gave it a pretty mushy feel right after I bled them. after a week or so of driving, the stuff got rock-hard and the problem fixed itself.. weird.

If its stopping and not leaking and no abs lights come on I should be ok right? I used the Valvoline Dot 3/4 synthetic stuff. Completely flushed the old stuff out. It was tight until I plugged the wires up to the pump and started the car. Anyway, thanks for the help!

Did the fluid level go down? I bet it's mushy because there wasn't much or any brake fluid in the ABS pump when you bled everything. Myabe you should try bleeding it again now that the abs pump had a chance to operate.
