Normal RPMs??

Didnt notice this until i put a hole in my tranny pan from an accident, but is it normal to have 2800-3000 rpms at 80 mph....at 60 its a lil (if not exactly on) 2400-2500....even if i have the a/t on comfort mode, still feels like my car is shiftin in power mode!!! any ideals??

That's odd, I had a '92 GXE auto, and at 60 with the torque converter clutch locked it sat dead @ 2000 RPM. 2400 sounds about right for a 5-speed, same with 3000 @ 80. Very odd, maybe your torque converter is damaged and won't lock-up on the highway.

Have you replaced your shift selector bushings yet?

Mine did something simmilar, so the tranny is mechanically in Drive, but not electronically. What you can try is while at crusing speed move the shift lever very slightly, try one direction then the other, I know it will only let you slide it into N so for the other direction you will have to depress the shift button while moving the shift lever. If you notice the rpm drop, then its your bushings are bad or gone.

You dont know how much time I wasted adjusting the tranny cable length until I found out about the second bushing.

good luck
