90 Maxima Transmission help and manual search
Hi... I have a 90 Maxima SE. Runs great, has about 170K miles on it. A couple of weeks ago the clutch went out (actually it was the throwout bearing) and a friend of mine and I replaced it no problem. But after we put it back together and went to test drive, the car wouldn't shift into reverse. I can feel it trying to go, but it just won't mesh. It shifts into the other gears just fine. Weird. Anyways, took the car to AAMCO and they wanted to charge 650.00 just to look at the tranny. My buddy's pretty saavvy with cars so we just decided to tackle it ourselves, but we need a manual for this, the Haynes book just doesn't cut it. Does anyone have a suggestion for a manual, where can I get one and how much does it cost? Thank you.
yeah, the haynes manual BLOWS when it comes to the tranny. they're like be sure to follow every step very carefully and don't take shortcuts then they don't even tell you how to do it. if you are wanting to tear it apart and look at it it's really not that hard. if there is anything you are unsure of remembering, write it down. if it gets to be something with the gears and you have to pull them apart that is when i would start searching for a good book like an fsm or take it to someone.
