93 GXE engine problem
Hey, first time I have been on the 3rd gen forums. But got a question. I got a 93 Max GXE. Here is the symptoms:
Just recently, I took the car out and the car would just stall. Most of the time it would start back up. Every once in awhile it would take a min for it to start back up. But now it just stalls at random times. Like I could be driving 10 mins and then it will stall. Or I could just be pullin out of the driveway and it stall. I was wondering if it was getting enough fuel (fuel pump problem) or maybe a catylotic converter problem. But you guys have always had good diagnoses. so i am relying on them again. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks!

Sorry it took me so long to reply. I did change the fuel filter. The one in the engine compartment. I think there is one in the fuel tank too. But still had the problem after changing the fuel filter.

Yeah, the strainer is what I was talkin about, but that's what I thought. I didnt think it would cause problems. The O2 sensor. Havent thought about that. Any other ideas? The car is an hour away, adn tomorrow I am going to go do some more analysis. So any new idea are quite welcome.

Ok an update. Well, put on a fuel pressure gague, and the whole time it maintained fuel pressure. The problem persisted again. Extra things I noticed:
1.) When the problem was happening I could feel the engine was having problems.
2.) One point I could not rev the engine beyond 2000rpm but could maintain speed around 1500rpm.
3.) Again the engine quit after I stopped.
4.) After awhile everything seemed to be alright. The problem disappeared.
ANy ideas???? This is got me stuck!

Well I had a hint that it may be the MAF too from what I read in the 5th gen forums. But thankfully I havent had a bad one on my 5th gen max. just read about them. I got the service manual for my 5th gen. but is it similar to a 3rd gen if not. Could u email me the pdf about it???? That would be great if someone could do that or direct me to a site. Thanks
