Timing belt on 91 SE VG

Just had my timing belt replaced tonight. Wondering, cause I don't remember from last time, is it normal to hear some squealing / belt noise when the timing belt is new? I know that it has happened with some of the other belts in my car recently (replace steering pump), but the noise went away after a little driving.

Is this a noise that is normal / will go away, or should I have the mechanic check it again? I'm not driving the car tomorrow, cause I don't want to lose my Maxima!

The squealing shouldn't come from the T-belt. Its got teeth to hold it in place. Maybe they need to check some of the other belts up front.

They had to take all the belts off to do the t belt. Chances are they didn't tighten them up correctly when they put them back on.

Yeah they need to remove your accessory belts (power steering, alternator/watr pump, air conditioning) to get to your timing belt, so when they replaced them they probably didn't tighten them enough, especially if they reused your old belts. Take it back and it should be a quick and free fix, but if it's not too loud you can live with it for a few days.

When I start the car, the engine holds a higher idle and it drops slower than before. Is that normal too?

Thanks again,

the engine, when it's cold, idles faster, then slows as the engine warms up. This is normal, and it's normal in every car. Not sure about the idle coming down slower than before though...
