My 1993 maxima se has this terrible tapping noise but only at certain operating tempratures. after its warm it goes away. i read that its the vtc. how hard is this to do myself if thats even it. how can i troubleshoot it ? i have 3 years of mechanics behind me.

 

well search VTC's and you'll find symtoms and then if it is the VTC Craig B's page has info on how to ground them.(you can find his page by looking in the FAQ's onto of this forum

OK, well if its 5 and not 3 you should have no problem re-building them. Just dont expect them too last long.
