I finally found my gas leak. I believe its called the return line or the top off line. it has a crack in it. I hope to get under there soon to fix it.

do a search for "fuel filler recall".. you can get it fixed at dealers expense.. if it is caused by salt and mud... eating away the tanks .... call nissan companyh and have them look at your maxima...

I dont see how salt and corrode the rubber hose. I am not talking about the metal pipe that the gase goes into the tank in.

which year 3rd gens was this recall for? I went to my nissan dealership and they told me that my car was not covered under the recall when they checked my VIN#. I have the same gas leak in my return line as probmxstyle and I was hoping to get it fixed by the recall.

The recall only covered the filler neck region. Crap building up between the pipe and the platic cover leading to a failure in the pipe.

Which region of the return line are you guys talking about???

I'm not sure the year, but it has to do with the region the car is from. I dont know which states it applies to, but I think it's mostly NE cars; maybe that's why you got rejected

There is a smaller hose above the pipe that the gas goes into the tank in. its about a inch in diameter.

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....all+filler+gas

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....ght=gas+recall

check for recall here on the nhtsa website..

IN ADDITION, THE LEFT REAR SEAT BELT RETRACTOR IS MOUNTED TO THE WHEEL HOUSING AND IN THE EVENT OF SIGNIFICANT CORROSION, AND THE MOUNTING COULD FAIL IN A VEHICLE CRASH.
Corrective Summary:
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THESE VEHICLES AND CORRECTIVE ACTION WILL BE TAKEN DEPENDING UPON THE EXTENT OF THE CORROSION.

here is the info.. now talk to nissan..but heck i guess this is better information that what i stated before.. sorry for the mix up folks...

In tha case, I think that my car was originally from Texas, but it has been in MA since 1994 so that means im stuck with any problems I may have. That stinks.

I had the same leak..glad it wasn't the fuel filler tube. I think that is a vent line. Easy fix, just a little tough to get to.
