Broken Seat Tracks: Anyone else?

My driver's seat track broke the other day in my '93. It broke directly behind the left front anchor. My guess is that is the point of most stress from weight transfer from the back of the seat... getting in/out, acceleration, twisting around on long drives, etc.

I think it's a safety defect. Nissan (1-800-NISSAN-1) says my otherwise well-kept 171K specimen is "nearing the end of its useful life" and says it's from wear and tear. Sure, and if I had gotten ejected out the rear window from a rear impact, that would be normal wear and tear too... right?

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has had or heard of these seat tracks breaking on 3rd gens, or if anyone has successfully dealt with Nissan to get out of warranty stuff covered.

Thanks

Re: Broken Seat Tracks: Anyone else?

BTW: You should inspect your front seat tracks (NOW!) in the area right behind the mounts... esp. the driver's seat. Look for signs of cracking and fatigue, and check them from time to time... like when you clean the car. I'm 210 lbs, don't abuse my car, and get on it some but not all the time. The previous owner was more mellow than me, and yet my seat broke.

Check yours now before a WOT 1st/2nd gear run puts you on your back unexpectedly when pulling out into traffic..

I have already went through 3 front seat tracks for the drivers seat.

I think everyone shoudl report this to http://www.infinitiusa.com/iapps/contactus they need to recall this especially on the newer models i had a lincoln ls that was 11 years old and never had this issue.

It still happens with newer cars its a design flaw they haven't fixed. Are you upset with me or yourself?

I don't think it qualifies as a design flaw since only a small number of people have had this problem. Im very familiar with all the common issues of the 3rd gen maxima and I've never heard of a broken seat rail other than these 2 guys. Given the severe safety concerns of a failed seat rail in an accident, I'm sure Nissan (not Infiniti btw) would have issued a recall if this was even mildly common. 2 broken seat rails in more than 8 years btw, maybe 3 if yours broke, you never did say?

Now why would BenStoked be upset with himself because you bumped an 8 year old thread?

My tracks aren't broken, but the reclining mechanism on the RH side is a little faulty. Launching from a red light has been known to cause the seat back to drop and scare the crap out of passengers.
