problem with overdrive?
i took a drive the other day to the mall (about 30 miles away) and the max drove great, even with the crappy road conditions that day...you know, black ice and snirt. well, on the drive home, i took the bypass and was going 60ish and the rpm's were at 3200, and it was like my overdrive wouldn't work. it should only be at 2900 or less for that speed, so it was wierd, and i was scared because i go back to school saturday (350 miles away) and this is not the time for car problems, know what i mean?! it even did this in low speed too, so it was really scary. took it directly to the shop and he said it could be the torque converter, or maybe even just something as simple as the ATF fluid needing changed along with the filter. anyone ever had this problem before?
when the car is cold, the TC won't completely lock up until after a while. mine usually takes about 10-15 minutes on the highway before it will lock up.. since I have a GXE, my gearing is different (I guess).. but mine runs 92mph at 3000 rpm when everything it warmed up and working right..
sometimes in the mornings when it's really cold, it will run upwards of 3500rpm (I saw 3800 one day) until it gets warmed up.. then it'll slowly drop down to where it should be.
Sooo, usually I drive with O/D off until the car is warmed up.. I'm sure you'll be okay driving like that anyway, but I always turn O/D off just to be safe.. the only thing it's hurting in that case is my gas mileage. (and gas is a small price to pay compared to a tranny rebuild)
