Speed sensor testing?

I have a '92 Maxima with an auto transmission, and the problem I have is the speedometer will sometimes spin all the way to the right and stay there (odometer stops too), then after a while, it operates normally. I'd like to know if anyone knows how to test the speed sensor. I think this problem may be the gauge cluster, but I want to verify that the sensor is working o.k. first.
Any help is appreciated.

Re: Speed sensor testing?

The only way I know of is to follow the FSM for checking cruise control. Basically, you remove the sensor, and see if terminals 7 & 9 on the crusie control unit deflect appx 0.5v.
