Preperation for 1700 mile trip!!!
My '93 max has over 200,000 miles on it, but it still runs very strong. I'm taking a 1700 mile trip next week and want to know if I should just get a $300 rental or go for broke with my max? I've made the trip twice before and had no problems. Any recommendations on how to prepare the max if I do take it? Thanks

Re: Preperation for 1700 mile trip!!!
With your car current condition and miles, would your car last over 1700 miles with your everyday/city/hwy driving? So why wouldn't your car make this 1700 miles of hwy driving? 1700 miles of hwy driving is alot easier when compared to 1700 city driving. Only you know your car current state of condition, with that said I say take your car. If you need areas to check prior to the trip, check belts, hoses, tires, washer fluid and wiper blades, moderate to major fluid leaks, and finally a seat cushion/lumbar support. The Max seat are hard on the body during extended periods of driving.

Actually long-distance driving, especially on the interstate, is much easier on cars than in-city driving. So yeah, if you trust your maxima daily to take you places in the city, it should have no problem taking you 1700 miles on the interstate. Just make sure all maintenance is done, and check things like Candiman said.
I took my old Maxima (not the current one) from San Francisco to Minnesota, detouring through Arizona first! An enjoyable experience...
Enjoy the trip, man!

i have made quite a few 2200 mile (roundtrip) journeys on my max...what i do is get an oil change BEFORE i set out to my destinataion...and get fresh oil again before i leave for back home.
It may sound like an unneeded expense but with the constant running and heating in the engine for a long drive...new oil is better. i dont mind the extra expenditure. maybe you could look into it.
The leather seats in my gxe were horrible for a long drive, they were just too hard...but the cloth seats in my SE are sweeet!

Now you tell me, after I swap out my cloth SE seats for blk leather seats. Even though I'm not planning on any road trips in the near future I'll keep that wallet thing in mind

Thanks for all the input. The trip is from central texas to arizona and I've taken it before. The part about the uncomfortable seat is so true. Not only do I not sit on my wallet, I get a nice soft pillow and sit on that about halfway through the trip.
