Wiper problems
hey, i searched and got some info, but i wanted a bit more specific on an answer. ice seems to have caused my wiper linkage to come apart so today i need to go out and take off that cover and look under there, but my question is...if i turn the wipwers on and they hardly move but the "clunk noise" is present does that indicate that my motor is still working fine?
Any answers will be appreciated as i don't want to pay $100 for a new wiper motor if mine is fine....

I'm sure your motor is fine...
Here's what happened a month ago on my brother's '90 GLE
He started the wipers with a completely solid windsheild and heard a "CLUNK"
then, the motor would sound like the blades were moving, but they really weren't. I took about the aquarium where the wiper linkage is and found that the rod connecting the motor to the two wiper links had popped out of the ball and socket. That's how the links are connected. I can almost bet you for sure that this is the same part you broke...if neither of your blades are moving. But if one moves, then its the link that connects the two blades most likely... they're connected like this so they move at the exact same pace.
sooo, this link has a plastic ball-and-socket setup. The plastic socket had exploded basically allowing the ball to come out. When you look inside, this will be extremely obvious. If it is broken, you will more then likely have to get a new link arm for the wipers. I think this happens a lot because the dealer had one in stock, and it was like $18-$30 (big window, can't remember) or something... but tell them to sell it to you cheaper 'cause courtesy will beat their price.
Anyways...
I hope this helps, maybe you've already fixed the problem by the time you read this.
good luck.
