Re: Wipers quit working!

If you hear the motor still turning, then more than likely, you just broke the weak linkage that Nissan put in there. I have never fixed this exact problem before, but MANY other Maxima owners have.

I once had a problem with the actual windshield wiper motor going bad. I had to replace it and that fixed my problem.

But, I'm pretty sure that the linkage broke or popped out of joint. Take off that black plastic cover on the bottom of your windshield and check it out. It's a very prone problem with Maximas and I'm confident that's your problem since ice and snow was involved.

If you search, I'm sure you will find many other accounts of people having the same problem.

The motor is about $110. But before you go out and buy it... I would make certain it is the motor. Cause 3rd gens are very prone to the linkage breaking. I mean, we ALL have had that problem before. Especially when their's ice involved. So, check that out first, then determine if a new motor is needed.

Same thing has happend to me but my problem was that I had broken the windshield wiper transmission linkage is what they call it!!! But if you still here the motor running ya in good shape, the linkage is like 32 a piece not bad, a little work is envolved in the repair not too bad. Got to remove that black splash guard right under the wipers like 4 or 5 pop up tabs, and also you need to remove the black rubber trim that is connected to it.

I know its simple, but you might want to check and make sure you just didn't blow the fuse for the windsheild wipers.

I got a motor for $25 from Dixon Auto Wreckers via www.car-part.com Works great and fairly easy to install. Kindof have to wiggle old one out then line up rotating arm on replacement to same position as old one you took out and wiggle it in.

Good luck.
