Leaking tranny - help
My '94 GXE has ~98K on it now. It's run great. The tranny still shifts just fine. Since I know these tranny's are not that durable, I've not been real hard on it and have changed ATF twice since I've owned it.
So, I changed the oil yesterday and noticed ATF leaking from where the drive shaft goes into the tranny. Has anyone replaced this seal or had it replaced? If so, how hard / complicated was it to change (if you did it yourself) and if someone else did it - how much did it cost? Also, if I decide to have a shop do it - do you guys think I should have a rebuild done at the same time?
Thanks for you advice.

do you mean one of the drive axles going to a wheel, or do you mean the input shaft from the tranny?
if you're talking about the seal leaking around one of the drive axles, it's an easy job.. simply drain the tranny fluid, remove the CV joint, pull the seal out, replace it, put it all back together.
a shop will charge about $120 to do it.
ONLY BUY OEM seals on the tranny. there are too many different ones from parts stores and none of them ever seem to fit. if you buy one at the dealer, you'll pay a few more bucks, but it'll fit right the FIRST time.

what more info did you need?
I had the same problem at about 140K on my 91SE.
I had the shop change them for me; both sides for $120, like the guy up there in moderation-lobby said. I'm too much of a chicken and a wuss to change it my self (I don't got the tools).
Good luck

if the input shaft is leaking, then it's possible that it's too full of oil.
it could also be your torque convertor.
it's often the rear main seal on the engine that's leaking though, so what's the reasoning you have that it's the tranny?
oil dripping out of the bellhousing?
