Weird problems with my maxima HELP PLEASE...

Well the other day when I was coming home from school I noticed that my car was shaking more than usual. Then while driving I just held the gas lightly to go slowly and I felt EVERY gear change and it shaked pretty hard while doing it. Well then I got to a red light and I notice my RPM meter going INSANE. The light changes I hit the gas then bam the car shuts down on me. I was able to start it back up immediately. Then today the same thing happend. Any ideas people? I apperciate any input thanks! And also I had just recently changed my timing belt and spark plugs/wires

Might be that your timing belt slipped? You could check the timing and if the front sprocket slipped it would show up I think. Also when I did my timing belt I had unhooked the MAF harness to remove air intake to get to lower radiator hose and then later forgot to reconnect. It went into fail safe mode and above like 2k rpm it shook and hesitated and rpms went up and down from 900 to 2k.
If you tried to rev much past 2k it shut down.

How soon after you changed the stuff did it happen, that might be a clue.

No expert here, just some things I thought might possibley contribute to the problem.

Good luck.

HELP MEEE

I did the spark timing changes like....3-5 months ago.. the story doesnt stop there..TODAY I was driving along then it wouldn't switch gears..I was stuck on 2nd. Going to school in the morning the car seemed fine. But while coming home it stoped on me in the middle of the street. Then it wouldnt get out of 2nd gear. I was flooring it and hit speeds of 25 mph and it sounded like there was no gas getting through. I really need some help I dont wanna let this beauty goto waste. Any ideas? Thanks

Since no one else has answered I'll try to help again, but others probably could help more. Im guessing its an auto? How does it idle when in neutral? Does it rev up smooth then? My uneducated guess is that its either the tranny if auto or maybe something with spark/fuel delivery and or something with ECU? If it revs up good while in neutral then its probably drivetrain?

Hopefully others will chime in here and shed some light.

Good luck.

Re

Yea its a auto. while in neutral it goes to a really high RPM at 1st then it goes down..and just keeps going up and down from there. Sometimes it revs smooth but when the engine started dying and the car wouldnt leave 2nd gear it did no rev smoothly at all. Also the car jolts like crazy if it did switch gears. Thanks...Any help apperciated

Sounds like it could be multiple problems. Maybe someone else can help us isolate what the problem is or problems are. I would go over everything I could to rule out vacumn leaks, wires unplugged, plug wires disconnected or switched, stuff like that first, the easy stuff. Look under the hood for anything amiss. There are a lot of posts about real bad hesitation that many maxima's experience at one time or another. Some have had success with changing coil packs but I believe thats on the VE engines, I forget what year yours is and wether or not its a VE. Also check into the posts about the transmission too. Im not sure if its not shifting etc because you cant get the power to go fast enough to shift or if the power is there and the tranny has something wrong with it. Thats why I was curious as to how it idled and rev'd in neutral. But that seems to be a problem too. Just throwing suggestions out there. I'd just try and rule things out starting with the simplest and easiest first.

Good luck.
