synthetic oil?
Hey guyz, apparently the search functions are down so i apoligize for the probably repeated post. However, i will have had my '92SE 5spd for 2yrs this july, it has just under 96k on it, running strong, howeveri am not sure wat type of oil the previous owners have used, since i have had it my father had insisted on takin it to firestone and having then change the oil w/ watever crap they use, the last oil change i used synthetic myself Castrol Syntec i beleive....I am not to sure if i should stick to the synthetic or is it just gonna be a waste of $$ by now w/ the mileage i have and give in to my dad and take it to firestone??....im still leaning towards the synthetic, but ive heard it can cause problems on higher mileage cars...lil help on clearin' this up??

Me and my Dad have been using Pennzoil 10w-30 since the day we bought the car new in 91. No major problems just find an oil you like and stick with it. As for the synthetics i've herd they are better, cleaner running oil, but in my Opinion our cars were meant to run real oil, and the idea of putting certain chemicals that are supposed to run like petrolium doesnt sit right with me.

the oil you use doesnt make too much of a difference so long as the bottom end is still good, synthetic burns a little better-it also depends on the driving,if you drive normal, regular GTX or whatever you use would be fine,if you redline every gear, the synthetic will HELP protect the bottom end components...mileage is also a factor, there are oils designed for high mileage motors

very true I use full synthetics mobile 1 10w-30 but they still have problems during cold starts flowability is the main concern!!! Depends on your cold time climate and also summer climate!! I am planning on changing to amsoil for the engine oil and redline for my manuel trani!! Good stuff, great flow in even the coldest temps and protects better and longer than the traditional 3k intervals said to be able to do 25k intervals but shorter on the oil filter!
