I will be finished doing my 5-speed conversion and I need to know if I need a new computer from a 5-speed to make my conversion work. I have a 92GXE auto and I'm wondering if I need to change the computer to an 89-91se 5-speed. Thanks. Any help is appreciated. I forgot who has already done the swap but if anyone can tell me how to get a hold of him that would be great. Thanks

yeah, you most likely will, although I'm not 100% certain. Let's put it this way, when I did the auto-> 5spd swap on my '84 Celica, it needed the ECU swapped. So I'm pretty sure a 8 year newer car with ever-increasing computer functions will need one

Easy junkyard find! 5spds are cool!

Wassup Chris.

Yeah, you need the computer. If you haven't found one yet, try calling that junkyard near Waldorf. Brandywine or somethin'. Later...

Chris, did you do the stuff yourself? How hard was it to install all the clutch-actuating stuff? Im thinking about doing this to my car but doing the labor myself and just find a whole wrecked 5speed to get parts off of.

No I didnt do the work myself actually because I had a shop do it for free since my warranty was still in affect. It cant be to hard to swap as long as you have all the parts. I'm sick of all the auto tranny problems so I think even if you had to pay near $1,500 it would be cheaper than a tranny rebuild. Every place I called wanted less than $1500 to do the whole swap. I guess it all depends on how mechanically inclined you are. In my oppinion its not too tough as long as you get all the parts.
