Computer question

After I open the paneling in the car, do I have to unscrew the computer from it's mounting? Or can I do all the diagnostic tests from the position it's already in?

Also, can anyone tell me how to switch the modes? I'm not quite clear about it.
Thanks

you actually don't have to open anything. just go to the passenger side and you can see the ecu and it's lights from there. i have the codes listed here http://www.nissanx.com/f0rums/thread...703&boardid=37

Thanks for the codes...
So I look at the computer... will it blink automatically or is there something(s) I have to do to get it to give me the codes? Turn the little circle counter clockwise?
what if no lights blink?

if i remember correctly you just spin the screw all of the way to the right (clockwise) and it should give you the read out. (with the key in the on position) i don't have my manual with me right now so i couldn't tell you for sure.

To check codes:
1. Turn key to ON position.
2. Turn screw on ECU clockwise all the way, wait 2 seconds then,
3. Turn screw counter-clockwise all the way, count the blinking light on the ECU or Check Engine Light (these are the codes).
4. Turn screw clockwise and back again to erase codes and your done.
5. Make sure screw is turned all the way counter-clockwise when you're done or car will not run right.

my 93 FSM says that there is only a single red led. long blinks are the tens, short blinks are the ones. So long, short, short, is code 12

the other post mentioned something about a green LED also. The FSM didn't mention anything about that.

All I did today was:
Turn car to ON
Turn the screw counter clockwise

Then there were 2 long red flashes, followed by two fast red flashes.
That's all... what does that mean? I'm new to (fixing) cars, so even with everyone's help I still feel sort of lost.

the VE codes are totally different form the VG so i have no idea, you need to hop on Ebay and buy yourself an FSM all the codes and procedures for the VE outlined to a tee.

According to the Chilton's Book, Code 22 is: "Fuel Pump Circuit (to 1991)

I went to my local public library and checked out the Chilton's Manual to help me with my 92 SE. Could be a faster/cheaper option than buying one off of ebay...

Any idea why it would have flashed red instead of two reds and a two greens?
