antenna has mind of its own

My friend's 93 SE has the stock bose system. The antenna seems to have a mind of it's own. It will go up when the car is turned on...then about 15min later, it'll go down. From there on, it'll randomly go up for a while then down, and just repeat. There's no set rythm...just seems to go on its own.

The same thing happened to my gf's 95 altima... maybe a nissan problem? any ideas?

About the antenna not going down. . thats probably a bad motor. but about the antenna going up and down randomly while the raido is on that is probably and bad connection on the antenna power wire lead comming out of the head unit its self. on an aftermarket radio int is usually blue. (remote turn on wire/power antenna)

Hey I don't think its my Motor b/c I can hear the motor trying to take down the antenna but the antenna won't go back down, I think i saw a post a while back that said that he had the same prob. and he had to get a new mast and that a piece of something got stuck in the motor and was preventing it from going down.

Then it is probrably the power antenna lead!! Pretty sure, but to make sure would be to get a line tester to check for current when the antenna is up and when it falls check the line to see if current is present if so when the antenna drops then you have a voltage drop some where or there is a grounding out or a spike. Then you may need a multi-tester to check the amount of voltage present. Let me know?

no, this's for my friend's 93 SE with bose

now he's telling me that it's erratic when accelerating hard and taking right turns only. nothing happens when stopping or left turns. I'm leaning towards thinking it's the lead...but it doesn't make sense why the lead would just flake out. What could I do even if it was the lead wire? It wouldn't be the power or motor cuz if those are wiggy, antenna would be stuck, but it's not.

I am pretty sure it would be the lead, just check both connections the one at the radio harness for shorts and the connection at the antenna. Use the line tester to check for voltage constant, then use a multi-tester to check for the correct voltage. I am not sure of the proper amount a voltage needed to maintain the antenna up, but that could be another cause of it to act up. check thru a haynes electrical schematic to check for voltage specs. Good luck
