Strange ignition problem

I know this is gonna sound really really crazy.

I was fooling around the other day and I unplugged all three of the front ignition coils. To my surprise the damn thing kept running. In fact, there was absolutely no change with the coils on or off.

When I take off any one of the rear coils, regardless of the number of coils hooked up in front, the engine takes a dive.

I even drove around with the coils disconnected and noticed no noticeable change. My car can't be running on 3 cylinders all the time CAN IT?! I mean sh* man!

Checking the plugs yielded the rear bank a healthy tan color, and the front bank sooty and black. These are fairly new plugs, less than 5000 miles.

I'm still trying to figure out whether it truly is an ignition problem or not. Maybe low compression? Front cam timing off? Half of the ignition control messed up?

I had to personally show 3 people the phenomenon before they would belive me.

Any input? Can anyone else pull this off?

Oh, and finally, the exhaust is EXTREMELY powerful. When It drifts in from outside it brings tears to my eyes and burns my nose. My friends joke about getting high by sitting in my car at a stoplight... It's not really a gas smell, or a rotten eggs smell either. Just very strong.

my friends decided 2 p! me off and do that once, on the front bank, but there was a difference b/c i was down a cylinder...so its possible that maybe your whole front bank is missing...does your exaust make the little popping noises all the time? thats when u know the cylinder is missing...at idle the engine wont shake 2 much if its down a cylinder, but the exaust will pop like mad if i unplug a coil pack
