HELP...... MY MAX IS SLIPPING OUT OF 3RD GEAR... ITS AN AUTOMATIC AND THE RPMS GO HIGH WHEN I ACCELERATE OUT OF 2ND. NO PROBLEMS IN 1ST OF 2ND THOUGH.. IS THERE A SENSOR OR SOMETHING ,, OR DO I NEED A NEW TRANNY??

I am having the same problem with my 89 Auto as well. My RPM's even go up from 1st to 2nd and then barley even goes into 4th at the end, sometimes never. I think I am going to need a new tranny .If so I am going to do the manual swap asap .

I had the same problem. High RPM's between shifts. Now I need a new tranny!! I'd start thinking about getting one or having your current one rebuilt.

I had mine rebuilt. The local nissan dealership wanted 2k+ for a new one, the local tranny shop rebuilt it for $1650. Works like brand new now.Gears in mine were completely worn, made a howling noise when in gear.After the rebuild, nice firm shifts and quiet as ever.As for a manual tranny, I'll wait until I can find either a late 3rd Gen SE or a 4th gen one.
