Wanna get a maxima, tranny question!

im looking for a 3rd gen maxima. I like the 1994 line, but i have a question. After i look around and find my right one (black, black leather, loaded) i know no matter what i want a manual. They come with 5 speed trannies right? well anyways, lets say i find my likings but its automatic, is buying and installing a manual into this year a good option? My dad owns an auto shop and im very mechanically inclined, i do engine pulls and places many times, and tools and place are not a problem. I was just wondering if im just better off starting with the manual factory installed, maybe because there are too many changes as in like the interior or something?

Re: Wanna get a maxima, tranny question!

I've never done it, but the impression I've gotten from the members on the board in the past is it's better to get one that is manual.
Make sure you get the "SE" model, it usually has a rear spoiler, but the main thing is that it has a more powerful engine in it (190hp instead of 160), and one "jokes" are about engine swaps.

theres a group buy on leather interor for like 550 so even if you find one with factory leather it will proboly not have been taken care of so id be bettter to buy one wiht cloth for less money and put new higher quality leather in later but the gd end 5/31/03 so youd have to do it prity soon and since the autos are worth alittle more than the manuals its better to buy one with the manual now because you will shell out around 750 - 1000 for the manual swap and your not going to get anything out of your used auto so your wasting alot of money there but the 5spds are definitly rare so good luck finding one cheap

well that figures.... well maybe the leather might not happen, but thats really the last worry on my list. Basically ill be looking for a 5 speed se in good bodily condition, the motor can be fixed/replaced fairly easily. Anyways i figure i got all summer to save up- no sense rushing into these things, itll give me time to find the one i really want
