I did this fun procedure last night, since my illumination went out for the OFF, RECIRCULATE, and AMB buttons. After taking off the face plate that goes around the radio and climate control and such, the top plate of the climate control pops right off. It doesn't come off, but hangs off to the left side. Using a small flat blade screwdriver, the control button panel also pops loose, but is held hanging by a white ribbon, connected the the chip board. If you tilt it up, and look from the bottom, you can reach all the bulbs. (radio shack #7912 I think). Now, all the buttons glow again! I know this has come up in the past here, and I hope this helps someone.
