Brakes

I will do a major brake job on my car soon (new rotors and drums).

I'm pretty much stuck when it comes to the rears, so I'll just go with stock drums with shoes.

For the front, I have some choices so I thought I'd ask what you all did for brakes. I am thinking Brembo replacement rotors with Hawk pads. I thought about cross-drilled rotors, but not sure if I will have any benefit in everyday driving (I drive pretty conservatively).

you can convert the rears to discs, but unless you drive like a madman (like me), then you don't need the benefits.

for pads, I highly recommend Raybestos Quiet Stop or Bendix IQ. they're fairly cheap and good performance and quality.

rotors, I only recommend Brembo or OEM rotors. don't go with slotted or drilled, they'll only give you the potential for problems.

Hey Matt, I have to ask, do the Maxi in the states have drum rear brakes? I thought all Maximas comes with discs all around. My Maxi has all discs standard. I guess it must be a Japanese thing.

GXEs come with drums...

Hey Matt, did you ever end up installing any type of brake proportioning valve? I would search but I can't

I know for a fact that the 89-91 GXE models came with rear drum brakes. However, I think that the 92-94 GXE models with ABS have rear disc brakes. Anybody know for sure?

Take a look at PFC pads. They are $32.99 from Autozone with a lifetime warranty. Next to EBC greenstuff, these are the bests pads I have ever used. And when they wear out, just take them back for a new set.

US-spec GXEs had drum brakes, unless they had ABS.. Otherwise, all non-US spec GXEs had discs in the back.

ALL SEs reguardless of ABS or not had discs.

No proportioning valve. you don't need it. the master cylinder is the same for discs and drums..

I can't believe your boy Jeff didn't do that. He did the brake job it only takes a few minutes especially on the lift to do.
