Automatic transmission filter?

Is there, or is there not, a replaceable oil filter in my '94 GXE 4 speed auto-tranny? I've heard/read about it both ways. Haven't found anything about it in the FSM automatic tranny chapter. Sure there may be a screen, but a for-real, corrugated-element filter?

There is a filter, but you dont have to worry about it. In the VG you cannot access the filter, but on the VE it can be accessed. The filter is only a extra fine metal mesh, it acts as a strainer and will not plug up like a paper/coton filter, there are also a couple donut magnets in the oil pan. I replaced mine at 60k and it was maybe 15% plugged (I have a VE obviously ). But the best thing to do is change your fluid every year, and maybe switch to synthetic. Its cheap to change the fluid and since there are a lot of failures out there its worth the $20 a year.
