92 SE Exhaust Question

While under my 92 SE, I noticed a section on the exhaust that I have not noticed on other cars that I have owned. Toward the front of the car, there is a 7 inch, mesh section of the exhaust infront of the o2 sensor. Then the catalytic converter and the muffler in the back.

Is that mesh section normal? It is silver, and almost looks like one of those Chinese finger puzzle things kids play with... (Best description I could think of...)

I don't have a digital camera, so I cannot post a picture. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Yes it's normal, it's called a flex pipe. It allows the engine and exh to flex under torque without breaking the exh pipe

Mesh pipe is totally normal, it was nissan's engineering response to the movement of the engine VS a stiff pipe. After a while it's the studs off the exh manifold that give way...
