Manifold Studs
Manifold Studs
Couldn't find my previous post on "cracked manifold"...
well bolt number 6 on my rear exhaust maifold is snapped leaving one half inside the head
First greaser said it'd take 4bills to do....second opinion said 4bills to do. Third opinion (i rarely ask for a 3rd) said 145 and 25 for each additional broken stud
well i went ahead and bought the studs, gasket and nuts and all that from stealership in town here ($54). I got the vg30 turbo zx studs as said on this:
http://members.csinet.net/tisch/maxima/studs.htm
Are these studs DEFINITELY stronger than the maxima's? I'm going back tomorrow to talk with the guy thats going to do the studs and confirm that he knows what he's talking about....$145 is a lot different from $400. anything i should watch out for? to think that i still have to fork out another 250 for labor when my clutch comes in .....i guess my year of high speed runs is finally catching up with me....

Re: Manifold Studs
I had the same exact problem!! The 3rd generation maximas are infamous for this problem. Just to give you a heads up....I originally had only one stud broke inside but as they were taking out the others three more broke. They tend to do this because the surrounding studs are over stressed by the missing stud. Mine cost about $650.00. That is pretty much all labor!! Ouch!! That really hit the wallet bad!! $145.00 huh? Sounds like a great deal!! I wish that I had found a deal like that!! Too good to be true? Well just make sure that the mechanic is ASE certified and offers some kind of a warranty.
