If you cant do them both right now then do one or the other. Then save up and do whatevers left from what you decided. If you just dont want the car lowered and you want wheels then get them.
I do know that a lowered car and stock SE wheels dont look too bad because mine was like that (It was lowered when I got it) until I got wheels.
Here is something to consider too. The 4th gens came factory with 16s and they looked fine (a little high but...) and the 5th gens come with 16s and 17s and they arent lowered and look fine too. I think you may actually have less wheel gap with the factory 3rd gens than the 4th and 5th gens.

Re: Re: rims wo/ drop
you mean sprint springs? no offense but that must look aweful, why didnt you have them put on at the same time? i would say put on your springs first, so when you do finally get your wheels it will look complete, and the reason why the 5th gens with 17s look fine is because they are probably running 50 or 55 series tires, if they had 40 or 45 series tires then the gap would look horrible. that is why they are able to fit large wheels with no problem becuse they can still go 2 sizes down on the aspect ratio without a problem. a rule of thumb is that for every inch you are increacing your wheels the aspect ratio will drop down 5% as long as they wheels are the same width. for ex. 225-45-17, 225-40-18, 225-35-19

Re: Re: Re: Re: rims wo/ drop
im just messin with you, but yeah your right about the diameter being the same but thats when the optical illusion plays a role because there is less tire and more rim so the gap actually looks larger than if you had your stock wheels/tires on
