Turning the (factory-code/dealer-cut) new key locks all doors. Later (after the dash "security" light goes out), turning key to right unlocks only the driver door. When that door is opened, the alarm goes off, and must be disabled by opening the trunk lock. Inside the car, the driver-side main door-lock switch locks and unlocks all doors. The service manual does not address this specific problem. A Nissan mechanic suggested it's likely the driver-side key-cylinder, which has a magnet that rotates as the key is turned. I checked, and the magnet is intact.
At the base of the door is a powered device. The manual de-scribes it as a door-lock switch/door-unlock switch/door-unlock sensor. Elsewhere the manual refers to a built-in lock-**** switch that's part of all that. Is it possible that's my problem? There's also a theft warning control unit beneath the dash and a theft warning relay under the hood. I'd be grateful for advice on how to attack this problem.

Sorry Robert, don't know what to tell you. I'm dealing with my own door lock / alarm problem on my '92 SE. An aftermarket alarm was installed which locks all doors when armed and unlocks when disarmed. Now, doors do not lock when armed. The doors also used to lock when the ignition was turned on, not anymore. The really weird part is that in order to drive with my doors locked, I must manually push the driver's side door lock down (which locks all doors) and wait about 2-3 seconds before putting the key into the ignition. If I do not wait, and just put the key in right after locking the doors, they all unlock. If I start the car without going through this process and press the door lock switch (by the window controls) it does nothing and if I manually push down the lock with the ignition on, the doors lock and then unlock immediately. I replaced the 'door lock timer' and things were perfect for about a month, then the ordeal which I just explained started to happen. I posted this problem earlier and nobody ever replied, so I can't imagine anyone will be able to answer for either of us. Good luck-

Whoa, sounds like both of you have some really odd problems
Mike you should go to the place that installed your alarm and they have to fix your problem(s). If you did it yourself then both of you should take your car to a Stereo/alarm MECP cartified installer or a place that specializes in electrical. try to talk to someone that has been doin this for like 4-5 plus years.hope you guys get it worked out.
