How to break a new habit/ no startup
Mr Max has always been there for me (originial owner) whenever I turn the key. Normally, it is garaged and doesn?t exihibit any startup problems. Normally engine will turn over almost instantly in most weather.
Recently it has exhibited behavior that is not acceptable. I refer to only the initial startup and under the following conditions:
- A Cold start and
- Left outside in street overnight (8hrs)
- (So far) Only on cold / damp nights.
Engine spins freely but it doesn't grab. Then I sense a slight hint of gas vapor. Believe it?s flooding (not from any gas pedal abuse).. Battery crank is respectable and I don?t suspect it to be part of problem.. if I wait for a 5-10 min.(and have not depleted battery charge) it turns over. It runs fine for the rest of the day, even if it is left off in cold for hours, It idles fine, and otherwise runs OK.
I recently added some carb/inj cleaner to tank thinking it was possibly residue but it has not resolved problem. Nothing unusual under the hood, mileage is low(about 81k), and has otherwise been maintained as per schedules.
Any ideas?
BTW : Any simple fix for that indespensible component, the ?travel Odometer? (it?s mechanical). It is a stiff and only resets by using obscene amounts of finger power.
Thanks
ADny

Re: How to break a new habit/ no startup
get a new distributer cap. I think it is a common problem for the caps to crack and if left in a damp area will not crank. I had this exact problem on my 90 and replaced the cap to fix it.
Good luck
as far as the trip odo. I would say maybe take the cluster out and see if something is out of alignment. I guess you could use some lithium greese but am not sure on that since it might gum it up.
