intersting discovery with coil packs
intersting discovery with coil packs
i was out messing with some stuff the other night with a friend and i was inside the car with it running and my friend sudenly said holy sh*t come look at this when i got out and looked my front left or back left which ever you want to call it coil pack it was continuesly arching to the intake manifold at the top of the cp i had never seen anything like it so i turned the car off and unplugged it and have been running on 5 cylinders ever since im going to be ordering 6 new cp's very soon i just wish they were cheaper. so if any of you are wondering if your cp's are bad just go look under the hood at night with the car running and you might know which ones are bad although this may be a first but i dout it is
also my other friend whos in school for auto machanics said they somtimes spray window cleaner on and around the spark plug wires and it makes the arcs more noticable but he hasnt ever seen it done on cp's so he didnt know if it would work and i havent tryed it yet so if any of you have heard of this please respond

yup.. it's fairly common to see that. for a temp solution (well it helps, but it doesn't eliminate it completely), wrap everything you can of the coil pack in electrical tape. it'll help prevent the arcing and get the engine running a little better.
also, don't worry about it arcing until you get the new one.. just plug it back in. you'll have worse problems to worry about if you just leave it unplugged.. lots of unburned fuel goign through the engine, and it can/wil cause the cat to overheat and cause more problems.
see where I'm going?
