New fuel filter & gas mileage.

Hi,
I've heard that replcaing a fuel filter will give you increased mileage. Has anyone experienced this, and can someone explain why this is?

Think about it. The filter is there to clean crap out of the fuel that is headed for the engine. This means that the crap will end up in the filter. When there is crap in the filter, fuel will not flow through it as well. It's not rocket science.

Yeah, I know it's not rocket science, I understand how the filter works, but i was asking why would people experience worse gas mileage if the filter was dirty and causing a restriction of fuel to the engine.

ok... Sorry newbie. no hard feelings. If your fuel is not flowing as fast as it was designed to, the computer is going to have a harder time creating the proper air/fuel mixture. This means that the car will not be as efficient, and will not get as good of gas mileage.
